Yaseen Briyani – Healthy & Cheap Vegetarian Briyani In Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre
If you’re living in the west of Singapore, you will most likely know about Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre. This food centre is known for housing stalls that serve delicious, value-for-money meals that will leave you with a happy tummy. But if you’re looking for a satisfying yet healthy meal (below 500 calories!), Yaseen Briyani might just be the place for you.
Located just a few bus stops away from Lakeside MRT, it’s quite a hassle to get there, but don’t let that deter you from making a trip down for a hearty and nutritious breakfast. Yaseen Briyani serves Vegetarian Indian Food, made only with the freshest ingredients in-store.
The dish we found the most interesting, though, was the Wheat Dosai, priced extremely reasonably at S$1. Opt for the Dosai if you’re vegetarian, or simply health-conscious. It does have lower calories, after all. Usually, Dosai (also spelled as Thosai or Dosa) is made with regular dhal and rice four, but Yaseen Briyani takes their signature Dosai to the next level by using wheat flour in their batter instead. The wheat flour gives the Dosai a unique whole grain texture that is hard to replicate, making it more wholesome and enjoyable for the tastebuds.
There are also savoury sauces at the side to dip your delicious Dosai in, including a bowl of dhal curry, piquant chilli chutney, and refreshing coconut chutney. Personally, our favourite is the bowl of dhal curry. There are even small potato pieces inside for you to indulge in. The chilli chutney is also flavourful, but lacking in spice. The coconut chutney is cooling and a good option if you’re not a fan of spice.
During these trying times, it is important to remember to support our local hawker stalls. Yaseen Briyani offers takeaway, and we can promise that the food will still be just as delectable and leave you satisfied, as if you’ve eaten there.
