Hai Sheng Carrot Cake – Here’s Where You Can Get S$2 White Carrot Cake In Singapore
A sinfully good hawker dish that Singaporeans love to indulge in is a good old greasy plate of carrot cake. We know it isn’t good for us but it sure is pretty hard to resist once we’ve had a good whiff of that aromatic wok hei smell.
Pretty much every single hawker centre in Singapore has a stall that sells carrot cake. Despite that, it is hard to find one that serves up a really solid plate of this comforting local favourite.
We discovered Hai Sheng Carrot Cake at 216 Bedok North Market & Food Centre and we feel that it serves up one of the better white carrot cakes that we’ve had in Singapore.
Hai Sheng Carrot Cake closes up pretty early because they usually sell out by afternoon time. So, if you’re making a trip down just to try it, do make sure that you do so early in the morning or you’ll be making a wasted trip.
We ordered their s$2 portion and boy were we surprised! For just s$2 we were served with a pretty generous amount of carrot cake. Definitely a steal!
The carrot cake here is also said to be made by hand, which is pretty impressive as that is a lot of hard work for such cheap carrot cake.
The carrot cake was surprisingly not very greasy, yet it maintained a good balance of moisture. This is great because it meant that the dish did not get too jelat, so you could devour a whole plate of this without feeling sluggish after.
It had also been fried with egg, so it gave the overall dish a lovely crisp as well as a distinctive wok hei taste. We also loved the generous bits of radish cake fried into the mix and added another layer of texture and flavour.
We definitely recommend that you pay this place a visit when the carrot cravings hit. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!
