Chee Cheong Fun is a classic breakfast dish commonly found in Hong Kong and a soft, velvety delight that many of us love to have in the morning. Freshly steamed, this thin roll made with rice is commonly filled with bits of char siew (sometimes prawn) and topped with soy sauce, a viscous sweet sauce and spring onions.

While we remain suckers for the traditional stuff, one particular stall that recently won us over with their fascinating rendition is Yummy located in 216 Bedok North Street 1 Market & Food Centre. Their version comes with crispy shards of fried bean curd over top.

Props to the owners who really spared no effort in dolling up their signboard. Adorned with wooden planks to give it a rustic feel, the exterior exudes an old-world vibe similar to the type you’d expect to find in olden day Chinatown.

For just S$2.50 for Set A, you get a massive portion of chee cheong fun generously covered in a reddish thick sweet sauce. Differing itself from the traditional chee cheong fun, this version comes topped with a generous amount of items such as crispy beancurd skin and fishcake.

The smooth and slippery chee cheong fun coupled with the crunch of the paper-thin beancurd skin was just too good. The sweet sauce was also not too sweet and did not overwhelm the various components. Overall, this was definitely an interesting experience and one that we highly recommend.
