What differentiates memorable chicken rice from a forgettable one is well-cooked chicken, fragrant chicken rice, and sharp and spicy chilli. But Pin Xiang Hainanese Chicken Rice in Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre has more to offer with a story of resilience behind it. The owner, Madam Tan, went from stay-at-home-Mum to an entrepreneur at age 60. It was after surviving two failed hawker ventures selling mixed rice before shd found success with Pin Xiang Hainanese Chicken Rice
Ladled over the chicken was soya sauce that added a yummy sweetish note to the tender and succulent chicken. The rice may not be the most fragrant but it earned points for the faint pandan scent that was mixed into its aroma of chicken stock. We gave it thumbs up for not being overly greasy. The chilli on the side had chopped garlic in it which also helped the overall taste.
What makes Pin Xiang Hainanese Chicken Rice stand out from the other chicken rice stalls in Singapore is its generous portions. Madam Tan makes sure her chickens weigh at least 2.2kg so that she can give customers a good amount. This attention to her customers’ experiences definitely deserves praise.
