Over the years, a huge number of Japanese eateries have been sprouting up in Singapore. From bakeries to restaurants, the increasing number just serves as an indication of how much Singaporeans love Japanese food.

Among them is Don&Bento, a hawker stall located at Beauty World Food Centre which serves Japanese rice bowls at wallet-friendly prices.

Costing a mere S$6, their Mentaiko Salmon Don (S$6) came as a pleasant surprise.

The bowl features a huge slab of salmon that is completely covered in mentaiko sauce, which was blow-torched a la minute. Served with the standard sides of Japanese yellow pickled daikon radish, seaweed, greens and a helping of Japanese rice, we found it comparable to typical mentaiko salmon dons served in restaurants.

The mentaiko sauce had just the right amount of sweetness and the charred edges gave a good contrast in flavour.

If Salmon Mentaiko isn’t your thing, Don&Bento also has other options including the’s Cheese Gyuniki Don (S$6.50) and Pork Katsu Don (S$5).
