Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice – Chicken Rice at Katong That Comes With Free-Flow Achar

Those who live around the Katong area, chances are you grew up eating this chicken rice. Hidden inside the food court at the basement of Katong Shopping Centre is Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice. Don’t be fooled by the quiet exterior of this old shopping mall, the food court is constantly packed during meal times and this chicken rice stall enjoys a constant flow of customers at any time of the day.

Our order of a quarter of a chicken and two plates of rice (S$13) was accompanied by a large bowl of piping hot soup and a plate of achar.

Slightly peppery, the soup was light on the palette and saw generous amounts of cabbage, carrots and chicken. The achar—comprising large chunks of cucumbers, onions, pineapples and mock abalone slices—was pickled to perfection with a great balance of sweet and sour notes. The best part is that the achar is free flow!

Because the sides exceeded our expectations, we really looked forward to trying the main dish—the chicken. Drenched in soy sauce and sesame oil, the chicken was smooth and silky and went extremely well with the fragrant rice.

The garnish of shredded carrots, coriander, spring onions and fried garlic were not just for show but instead, it provided greater flavours and textures to the chicken. Also, their homemade chilli sauce was piquant and will definitely be well received by spice lovers.

Those coming here alone can opt for their value-for-money set (S$5) which includes one serving of chicken, a plate of rice, soup of the day as well as achar. An open secret in the Katong area, come early to avoid the snaking queues!
