Tian Yuan Healthy Vegetarian Food – Homely Vegetarian Eatery at Fortune Centre
Fortune Centre is a popular haunt among vegetarians in Singapore due to the plethora of vegetarian eateries and shops there. Despite being tucked away behind the main atrium, Tian Yuan Healthy Vegetarian Food sees a constant flow of patrons. This humble eatery which takes up two small shop spaces across each other is run by a friendly elderly couple who were extremely welcoming and mingled with each and every patron.
The modest menu offers vegetarian renditions of familiar dishes such as Penang Laksa and Prawn Noodles. We got the Zhajiang Mian (S$6) as it was highly recommended by the lady boss.
Accompanied by a side corn soup, the large bowl of noodles saw a generous amount of gravy and was finished with some fried beancurd pieces atop loads of fresh lettuce, purple cabbage, cucumber and carrot. The noodles had a springy mouthfeel which provided a great contrast against the crunch from the vegetables and the chew from the braised mushrooms and tau kwa. Additionally, we loved the hint of spice in the luscious gravy as it made it extra flavourful.
We also ordered up a bowl of the Dessert of the Day (S$3) which was a purple rice and oats soup (紫米大燕麦汤). Sweet and slightly smoky, it was light on the palette and every scoop saw copious amounts of beans and grains.
Our meal at Tian Yuan Healthy Vegetarian Food was truly satisfying and really warrants more visits to try out their daily rotational menu. The great service from the elderly couple made it feel as if you were having a home-cooked meal – it’s no wonder this eatery has so many regular customers.
