So you have set your laptop and notes down on your table, and you tell yourself that you should finally get some work done. You start off strong-willed, completing the assignments that you need to do, but slowly, you find yourself starting to daydream. You drift away from work, and you are slipping into the tempting claws of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat—basically anything but work.

We often find ourselves being unproductive at the worst of times. As much as we would not like to admit it, we succumb to using our phones or surfing the web whenever we need to stay focused.

A break is needed, but the focus has to stay. Here are 7 Most Effective Ways To Be Productive.

#1 HYDRATE YOURSELF, OFTEN AND WELL

Let us start off easy: drink lots of water. You might think that hydrating yourself has nothing to do with completing that assignment that has been sitting on your desk, but that is where you are wrong.

Drinking water helps you think and focus better, allowing you to concentrate and be more alert. Your energy also gets a boost!

#2 MAKE IT A HABIT TO KEEP A TO-DO LIST

You might be a complete millennial, believing that everything can be done on your phones or laptops. And while that is true to a certain extent, there is also a beauty to having a traditional pen-and-paper to-do list.

It feels absolutely amazing to tick something off your list. Losing track or getting distracted? Just take a look at your to-do list and get back on track.

#3 WORK OUT IN THE MORNING

Yes, we know. Work out? In the morning? Most of us would rather sleep in than head to the nearby gym. But just like drinking water, it increases your focus and allows you to stay more alert throughout the day.

Plus, your metabolism will also get a boost. We are so gonna try this.

#4 TAKE REGULAR BREAKS

Instead of burying yourself in work hours all the time, try taking 15-minute breaks every now and then. Set a mini timetable for yourself, and stick to it.

Having breaks means that you will stay more focused on the task at hand while you are at it, because you know that you will already get a break in a bit. Also, keeping track of the time allows you to get a gauge of just how much work you are able to do in a certain amount of time.

#5 TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS ON YOUR PHONE

Relax; it is just notifications, it is not the end of the world. Let us all admit it, our phones are our biggest distractions. One way to make sure you do not constantly check your phone is to make sure that it will not ring. If you keep checking who just followed you, or what your friend had just posted on Facebook, you will never truly be able to get your work done.

#6 DO NOT COOP YOURSELF IN A ROOM WITH NO WINDOWS

This might sound strange, but literally confining yourself to four walls does not do much for the mind. This might depend on individual, but most of the time, the brain works better when there is a view to look at—be it the roadside outside your house, or even the building opposite your office.

It will make you feel less lethargic, allowing you to concentrate better.

#7 EAT HEALTHIER

If you are not exactly ready to wake up at 6am for a morning jog, then start with having a more balanced diet. This means lesser late-night burgers. But don’t shun the idea just yet. Healthy eating does not necessarily mean sticking to fruits and vegetables. There are so many other nutritious options to feast on, without missing out on the flavour factor.

Eating healthier maximises your energy, so you will be able to stay focused longer throughout the day. It also helps you think clearly!
