Mac and cheese is a classic comfort food that many of us love. However, it’s usually sold at restaurants at exorbitant prices, making it a pretty pricey dish to indulge in. Which is ironic given that the ingredients that make up the dish are pretty cheap.

In Singapore, it can be a tad challenging to find places that sell affordable yet scrumptious mac and cheese, but after much scouting, we have finally found 5 places that sell delicious mac and cheese for you to satiate your cravings for the treat without breaking the bank.

CHAR GRILL BAR

Char Grill Bar is one of the most popular western food chains here in Singapore, and are famous for their affordable yet mouth-watering food. One of their popular sides here is there Mexican Cheese Pasta, which is essentially their own take on mac and cheese with a Mexican twist.

Despite being just a side dish, they serve a generous portion of it with every main. This pile of cheesy goodness definitely goes well with their meat mains such as their popular Char Grill Chicken. If you’re craving for just the mac and cheese, you can always order it by itself for only S$2, and if that portion is too small you can always order another one.

CHOPS GRILL AND SIDES

Chops Grill and Sides is another popular western food stall that is located in a humble coffee shop at Ang Mo Kio. They have a pretty extensive sides menu, but a crowd favourite will definitely have to be their mac and cheese.

Like Char Grill Bar, their mac and cheese comes as a side, and goes great with the mains served here. Their mac and cheese dish is oozy, creamy and most importantly, incredibly cheesy. We feel that they should start selling it as a main instead!

FAT MONKEY’S

Fat Monkeys is a small hawker stall tucked away at upper Serangoon road that sells delicious western fare. It was set up just late last year by two friends who are really passionate about the food business.

What makes them stand out is the way they do their mac and cheese differently from everyone else. Instead of serving it in a bowl, they fry their mac and cheese into a giant crispy ball, so when you break it open all that cheesy mac and cheese goodness oozes out.

squeezed mac and cheese

SQUEEZED

Squeezed is another place that does their mac and cheese differently. They started off as a kiosk selling cold-pressed juices, and now they have branched out to sell stuffed brioche buns.

Out of all these buns, we were definitely drawn to their stuffed Truffle Macaroni and Melted Nacho Cheese buns. There wasn’t much of a truffle taste, but we were content enough with the cheesiness of the mac and cheese. We feel that the mac and cheese here is good enough eaten by itself and not with the bun, and hope that squeezed will one day maybe start selling this as a main instead.

THE BIG CHEESE

The Big Cheese is probably the most popular mac and cheese place here on this list. The Big Cheeses goal is to sell mac and cheese at really affordable prices, and they certainly are doing that right!

For just S$5.90, you can customize and build-your-own mac and cheese with the choice of two cheese bases mixed with two meat or vegetable options and a topping. Despite it being so affordable, they are really generous with their portions and the amount of cheese they use. Definitely worth a try!
