The Singapore health authorities have confirmed 41 cases of Zika virus infection in the country. Out of these cases, 34 have since recovered and the remaining seven patients are now under Tan Tock Seng hospital’s care.
Majority of these cases include 36 foreign construction workers in the Aljunied Crescent or Sims Drive area. They are reported to have infected the virus locally as the workers have not been to Zika-affected areas recently.

This news came amidst growing concerns over the first known Zika case in Singapore that had just been reported on Saturday, contracted by a 47-year-old Malaysian woman living in Aljunied Crescent.
As the Zika virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, it is important for Singaporeans to remain vigilant and to get rid of potential mosquito breeding areas. Several tips to help keep the Zika virus at bay are to empty flower pots, turn over buckets and pails that you are not using and to cover the lids of your dustbins.
