You would probably have seen many beautiful images of MacRitchie Reservoir Park’s TreeTop Walk on your Instagram feed. The 250-metre long freestanding suspension bridge – standing at 25 metres above forest floor – cuts through the lush greenery of Singapore’s oldest reservoir and boasts gorgeous panoramic views of the surrounding forests.

Before you plan a trip to TreeTop Walk, you ought to prep yourself with some tips and what to expect. We all don’t like unexpected “surprises”, right?

Here is Our Guide On What To Expect When Visiting The Walking Trail At Treetop Walk.

HIGHLIGHTS

Nature lovers are in a spectacular treat. The nature reserve boasts over 1,500 species of flora and fauna such as Torch Ginger Flowers, Clouded Monitor Lizard, Crimson Sunbirds and more.

The picturesque TreeTop Walk is more than just a pretty bridge. The infrastructure actually functions as a gateway for researchers to further study forest ecosystems.

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING ALONG

The hike up to TreeTop Walk is characterised by steep slopes and unpaved terrain. Be in your exercise gear instead of clothes that restrict your movement – no jeans, no short skirts, no dresses. For safety reasons, all visitors should be wearing appropriate footwear, i.e. sports shoes.

We also recommend hikers to bring along sunscreen, insect repellant and a water bottle.

IT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

Unfortunately, the TreeTop Walk has been designed in a way where it is unsuitable for the disabled, pregnant women, young kids and pets. Those who are suffering from acrophobia or other heart conditions should also avoid the TreeTop Walk altogether.

RULES TO FOLLOW

Visitors have to bear in mind that they are only allowed to traverse through the bridge in one direction, so do not try to walk backwards or it might get hazardous – for you and for everyone else on the bridge. Safety is of utmost importance and hikers must not run or jump on the bridge.

Do also be warned that many monkeys roam freely around this nature site and you should be extra cautious on how you store your food. These creatures, however adorable, will not hesitate to snatch food from you aggressively. And please, do not feed them!
