The Thai Street Co. – Affordable Thai Set Meals In Labrador Park
Singapore has jumped on the bandwagon for all things authentic Thai. Hence, it should come as no surprise that yet another Thai eatery has just opened its doors to satisfy our cravings for authentic Thai food.
The Thai Street Co. is a sister outlet to the now defunct Great Thai @ East Village at Upper Changi Road. Unlike their parent outlet who caters more for large groups, this place offers a selection perfect for solo diners or pairs.
THAI BASIL PORK
The Thai Basil Pork Rice Set (S$11.90) came with a bowl of Tom Yum soup and a choice of drink (S$11.90).
The basil pork we had contained just the right kick of spice. The flavour robust and it was not too oily.
Ironically, what caught our eye was the gorgeous sunny side-up. The yolk had a perfectly runny centre that drenched the white rice below, allowing the dish to come together nicely.
BASIL CHICKEN RICE
We also ordered their Thai Basil Chicken Rice Set (S$11.90). Compared to the pork version, the minced chicken was slightly softer and had less of a bite.
PAD THAI
At S$8.90, this was our personal favourite. The rice noodles stir-fried with egg and garlic retained its springy texture and the overall taste leaned towards the sweeter side which we preferred.
Unfortunately, the seafood which came with it was nothing to shout about–the prawns were a tad mushy and the deep-fried fish slices were soggy. It would have been a bonus if they managed to somehow keep those slices crispy.
You can also choose to have your Pad Thai with chicken or tofu, which may have been better alternatives.
Located just below Fragrance Empire Building and just a 5-minute walk away from Labrador station, The Thai Street Co. is barely a month old. Despite the wayward location, there seemed to be quite a buzz when we visited during lunch time.
Considering it is still fairly new, this place is off to a good start.
