Singaporeans can all attest to one thing: when it comes to comfort food, there is no doubt in our minds that anything warm, savoury and soupy is the way to go. Yet, nothing stirs nostalgia better than a hearty bowl of Pig Organ Soup!

Pop on over to Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre, an enclave of hawker stalls reminiscent of our childhood dishes. Soon Huat Pig’s Organ Soup is one such foodie gem situated in the heart of the hawker; they bring us right back to the past with their familiar, potent broth. There’s a long queue at the stall every day and it is the best testament to their popularity. We will go out on a limb to say that this is one of the best Pig Organ Soups in Singapore.

Soon Huat Pig Organ Soup

We ordered their signature Pig’s Organ Soup, accompanied with a steaming bowl of white rice (S$5.50). The moment the soup was placed on the table, we could already smell a strong peppery aroma wafting from the concoction.

The bowl was chock full of ingredients from lean pork slices, innards, pig’s stomach, liver to sliced tomatoes and salted vegetables. Although salty and sour from the kiam chye (salted vegetables), the cloudy broth had a slightly sweet aftertaste from the tomatoes.

The slight kick from the pepper also added on to its robust flavour. The innards were also well-cleaned and there was no foul smell! The rice complemented the soup nicely too; overall, it was a very satisfying meal.
