Today marks the inaugural debut of the world’s first self-driving cabs in Singapore. These self-operated taxis are operated by startup nuTonomy and only six cars have been launched. It is said that the number of cars will most likely increase to 12 by the end of 2016.

Technology has outdone itself and we are thrilled by this piece of revolutionary news.

But hold your horses, because only selected passengers can use this newfound technology, and this service is also currently limited to a 2.5-square-mile in One North district. Pick-up and drop-off points are designated too.

The self-drive cars – Renault Zoe and Mitsubishi i-MiEV electrics – have a brilliant in-built detection system and can intelligently scan for road hazards. The future of this invention is bright and nuTonomy hopes to eventually present a fleet of self-driving taxis in Singapore by 2018.

Of course, it might take some time before the people are used to this creation.

It is of utmost importance that safety is not compromised in any way and arduous research will be conducted to ensure that. If everything proceeds smoothly, these self-drive cars will be changing the transportation methods of people forever.

For now, interested passengers must have an invitation from nuTonomy to use this awesome kick-ass service.
