Seletar Western Food – Old-School Western Fare at Seletar Hills

Tucked away in a corner coffee shop inside Seletar Hills Estate is Seletar Western Food, which serves up unpretentious old-school Western fare. Every table at this small coffee shop was having at least one dish from Seletar Western Food and the phone was ringing off the hook for takeaway orders—a testament of its popularity. It’s only opened for dinner, so go early or expect some waiting time!

We tried the Fish & Chips (S$6.50) which was a popular dish from the store. Flaky and smooth albeit thin, the breaded layer of the fish gave a nice bite to it. Squeeze the lemon wedge to give your fish an extra zest.

We were looking forward to tasting the Chicken Chop (S$6) as many others were having it, and we were not disappointed! Accompanied by a brown gravy that had hints of chicken stock, the chicken was tender, succulent and came apart very easily. The smokiness from the well-seared chicken skin added more depth to the overall flavour as well. 

Although Seletar Western Food serves all dishes with run-of-the-mill sides such as baked beans, buns and fresh vegetables for the side salad, the buns are definitely worth a mention. Buttery and shiny with grease, the buns were extremely addictive when dipped in the brown gravy.

Reminiscent of the Western food we used to get at the school canteen food when we were younger, we recommend dropping by here for a comforting no-frills meal when you’re in the area.
