5 Questions You Need To Ask Yourself Before Getting A Tattoo
In today’s current age and society, tattoos are still frowned upon by some, especially the Asian population. They once represented societies and gangs and is often stereotyped and associated with bad company and influence.
Fortunately, mindsets and ideas of tattoos are slowly starting to change—and for the better. Now, more and more people are starting to appreciate inking as an art form, rather than evidence of someone going down the “wrong route”‘; stigmas against tattoos now are a lot less demeaning.
It is entirely up to an individual’s personal choice on whether they would like to get inked or not. It is, after all, something that will stay with you till the day you die. Tattoos are beautiful and can represent a whole lot of meaning, but before hopping into your nearest tattoo parlour and getting one straight away, here are 5 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Getting A Tattoo.
#1 HOW MUCH DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GET THIS TATTOO DONE?
Ask yourself this question out of a scale from 1 to 10. It is important that you know what you are getting yourself into because the results are permanent.
Tattoo removal is possible, however, it will be a long and painful process. Your skin will never return to its original state afterwards too. Remember to keep this in mind before making your decision.
#2 ARE YOU GETTING THIS TATTOO OUT OF IMPULSE?
We will admit it; it is easy to get influenced by peers, especially if you are the only one in your clique who does not have one. But this decision is ultimately yours, and if you are getting a tattoo on a whim, you might just find yourself regretting it a week, a month, or even years after.
#3 IS THE TATTOO PURELY FOR AESTHETICS?
There is nothing wrong with getting a tattoo purely based on how good it looks. After all, tattoos are works. However, you need to consider how this particular tattoo will look on your body 10, 20, perhaps 30 years down the road. People often regret the cheesy quotes, the kiddy photos, and their partners’ (who will eventually become exes) names.
#4 WHICH PART OF THE BODY WILL YOU GET THE TATTOO ON?
This comes into importance especially when you work in the real world. Many jobs still consider tattoos a taboo, and would rather you hide yours if you have one. Jobs in industries such as healthcare, law enforcement or financial institutions are just some of the places that are especially strict when it comes to tattoos.
But this does not necessarily mean that you need to avoid getting one altogether. Just make sure you get it in places that are perhaps easier to hide or conceal.
#5 HOW MANY ARE YOU PLANNING TO HAVE?
Tattoos are addictive, and it is hard to stop at one. Be strategic with your planning lest it becomes a mess instead of art. Many people often regret their choices because while they are individual pieces of art, they may not go well together. Give this a serious thought, and plan for the number of tattoos you want. It is best to visualise the places you are going to get inked, and from there, find designs that complement each other.
