Lao Jie Fang Beef Noodle – Legit Hong Hong-Style Beef Brisket Noodle
Located in Mei Ling Market and Food Centre, this hawker stall is so popular, queues start right from when it opens! Serving up some delicious bowls of Hong Kong-style beef brisket or pork rib noodles is Lao Jie Fang Beef Noodles.
It’s about a 10-minute walk from Queenstown MRT but we assure you it’s well worth the trek there. Check out what we thought about this hawker stall’s noodles!
For Lao Jie Fang’s Braised Beef Noodles (S$6), traditional Hong Kong Egg Noodles are used. They have that nice “QQ” bite to them and are the perfect base for the braised beef and savoury gravy.
The beef brisket is stewed for several hours in a fermented soy-bean paste sauce, making it mouthwateringly tender! It simply falls apart the moment you take a bite. The gravy is also extremely delicious and full of umami flavour from the beef.
We also tried their Pork Rib Noodles (S$5). Thick chunks of stewed pork rib in that same sauce, vegetables and those springy egg noodles make up this bowl.
We possibly liked this more than the beef – the pork was ultra tender and the gooey pork fat was so sinful and addictive. We also appreciated the kick of spice from Lao Jie Fang’s house-made chilli that was added to the dark sauce.
If you’re craving an almost-authentic Hong Kong-style beef brisket or pork rib noodle, Lao Jie Fang is a pretty great place to go.
