Singapore’s pride Joseph Isaac Schooling has made it to the Rio Olympics’ men’s 100m butterfly finals – which made him the first Singaporean male swimmer to compete in the Olympic final! This is astounding results that we just got, and we are rejoicing together with our nation!
Schooling finished 1st in 50.83 during the 100m butterfly semi-final, setting a new national and Asian record timing that happens to be the world’s fastest this year. Yes, beating the 21-times gold medalist Michael Phelps from USA.

It was a close fight between him and South Africa’s 2012 Olympic silver medallist Chad le Clos who clocked in 51.43 and will be competing against Schooling in the final.
Joseph Isaac Schooling’s idol, Michael Phelps, had completed the 100m butterfly semi-final in 51.58 to finish second in the other 100m fly race.
With all that said, the nation will be keeping a close watch on the 100m butterfly finals which will be held on Saturday morning (Aug 13, Singapore time) at 9.10am.
What a proud moment it is for Singapore and great SG51 present from Joseph Schooling! Our Olympics is so close to coming true.
Meanwhile, here’s a shout-out to all the other Singapore athletes who are representing Singapore in Rio 2016! We cannot be more proud of each and every one of you!
