Singapore has won our very first Olympics gold medal!

Singapore’s pride Joseph Isaac Schooling made history with his victory in the prestigious Rio Olympics 2016 by coming in first in the 100m Butterfly finals. This is probably the best news for our nation this morning, and Singapore is brimming with pride; everyone is overjoyed with the young athlete’s glorious achievement. Global spotlight is now on Schooling for all the right reasons; he is indeed deserving of all the attention.

Joseph Isaac Schooling is Singapore’s very first swimmer to have qualified for an Olympic swimming finals, and that is not all! The young talent’s time for the 100m Butterfly Semi-finals of 50.39 seconds is the world’s best timing this year – yes, he even managed to defeat revered world record holder Michael Phelps. Schooling has always been a fan of Phelps and beating his idol was a phenomenal feat.

Schooling’s outstanding performance sure deserves celebration, and his accomplishment is certainly one of Singapore’s best 51st birthday presents. Our tiny-but-mighty country has never been more proud. Once again, congratulations to Singapore’s rising star and his stupendous swim.

Schooling’s win is not by chance, but a result of his years of hard work.

The 21-year-old swimmer has gone from strength to strength throughout Rio Olympics 2016; he had successfully clinched first place in both 100m Butterfly heats and semi-finals. Schooling completed the former in 51.41 seconds and outdone himself by completing the latter in an even more impressive time of 50.83 seconds.

Just minutes ago, Schooling wowed spectators by coming in first place with a ground-breaking timing of 50.39 seconds. USA’s Michael Phelps, South Africa’s Chad le Clos and Hungary’s László Cseh tied with a silver at 51.14 seconds. It was a challenging race and we are ecstatic with this wonderful piece of news.

Schooling has made national history once again with his excellent feats and we are certain this is not the last time we will be witnessing such a spectacular moment in Singapore’s sporting history. Majulah, Singapura!
