When Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre was being revamped, a few stalls were rumoured to stop operating. Inspirasi was one of those that many heaved a sigh of relief over when they reappeared with their signboard up a few weeks before the centre’s reopening.

Established in 1970, the Inspirasi name is familiar to many and is the first name that comes to mind when someone asks for a recommendation for mee rebus or mee soto. If you’re on the hunt for some of the most affordable food in Singapore, this should definitely be on your list.

Inspirasi Long Shot

For just S$2.50 a bowl, we received a generous amount of piping hot Mee Rebus that sat in thick soybean-based gravy. Fresh green chillies, a hard-boiled egg, plus lots of chopped spring onions and shallots complemented the dish.

Inspirasi Noodles

The springy egg noodles were smooth, flavourful, and coated with deliciously sweetish brown gravy. Made with potatoes, ikan bilis (dried anchovies), soybeans, and a few secret ingredients, the simple gravy was the true highlight.

Inspirasi Close Up

Add on begedil, chicken, or extra noodles, or egg at S$0.50 each for more savoury balance to the dish. For extra spice, dig into their huge container of signature sweet-spicy chilli-kicap manis sauce too.

Inspirasi Shop Front

Inspirasi sells only four hearty dishes which includes Mee Soto, Soto Ayam, and Chicken Porridge all at the equally affordable price of S$2.50. Yet the line of hungry customers that continue to form each day solidly backs up the accolades plastered on their storefront. That said, don’t be daunted by the queue. Since most of the ingredients are prepared, orders don’t require too long a wait.
