He He Min Jiang Kueh – S$0.90 Crispy Peanut Pancake At Hainanese Village Food Centre
Tucked away on the second level of the Hougang Hainanese Village Food Centre is He He, a Min Jiang Kueh stall that sells a variety of flavoured Min Jiang Kueh alongside other light cooked food items such as Soon Kueh, Chee Cheong Fun and Peanut Porridge.
It wasn’t too hard to locate the bright, purple signage which proudly displays the stall name He He in Mandarin from afar. The mix of food offerings on the signage also made for a great indicator though we felt that it only got us feeling more hungry before we ordered.
On our visit, we ordered the Peanut Pancake (S$0.90) and the Chee Cheong Fun (S$1.40 for 2 rolls).
Unlike most Min Jiang Kueh stalls that we’ve visited, He He’s peanut pancake didn’t come fluffy and thick. In fact, it was thin and crispy with a generous amount of finely crushed peanut butter. Each bite gave us a good pancake-to-filling ratio, which we felt was a good balance of taste.
Don’t worry if you’re not a fan of peanut as He He does offer several other flavours for their pancake which includes cheese, chocolate, coconut and red bean.
For the affordable price that we paid, the Chee Cheong Fun that we had was smooth and didn’t taste overly sweet with the accompanying sauce. The chilli provided an extra kick which definitely added more flavour to this morning breakfast dish.
