8 Exciting Food Innovations in Recent Times That Have Changed Our Lives
The world is constantly changing, and with globalisation, more great minds and innovators have come forth to make everyone’s daily lives a little easier. Food is more than just a necessity and it will never be superfluous, and some brilliant people have come up with ground-breaking innovations for food over the years that have largely improved our lives in many ways.
It could be something huge with an even bigger impact such as drifting fish farms or sustainable agriculture, or something smaller but still influential such as edible food packaging. Every little step that we take becomes a ripple effect in innovation and technology that could eventually target even bigger problems or issues in the world.
Over the past couple of years, measures have been implemented, and small but exciting tech toys have been created. Whatever it is, we are on board with this evolution. Here are 8 of our favourite Exciting Food Innovations in Recent Times.

#1 3D FOOD PRINTER
3D printers have been in the works for decades and it is only in the recent years that this technology has been more refined. The idea of a machine that could create something with a tap on the screen is both extremely thrilling and scary at the same time.
Could 3D printing food be the next leap forward in the world’s food industries? Only time will tell.

#2 BIODEGRADABLE PAPER
Of course, this is not a new innovation and it has been around for a long time. The only shocking thing is that many F&B establishments are still not using biodegradable packaging in their to-go food when the cost is definitely not that far off.
While there is a significant increase of restaurants and cafes using this sustainable alternative, it is still not enough to curb pollution outstandingly. We need to make use of this innovation a lot more.

#3 DRIFTING FISH FARMS
Officially implemented about 4 years ago, drifting fish farms were created to meet the demand for seafood without using destructive means such as deep sea trawling. The apparent solution was to move fish farming further offshore and to deeper waters.
This amazing idea has since offered solutions for fishermen to stop destructive farming options and providing them with a better one, wielding the same amount of goods.

#4 EDIBLE FOOD PACKAGING
In 2013, WikiCell has produced something far from the ordinary – a food “packaging” that is completely edible. It has been described to have the texture of grape skin and is safe to consume fully. This was created to reduce the amount of waste from food and drinks – which actually amount to startling numbers.
#5 ORGANIC FOOD & SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
Sustainable farming is more widely used now that an increased number of people are concerned about the environment and the dire state that it is in. By producing completely natural products that have not been fed or injected with chemicals and acids, this will ensure that it will not affect your body negatively, and that all the farming was done humanely.

#6 PERFECT ICE CREAM SCOOPS
While this might seem like a strange addition to the list, we actually found it quite intriguing. The Midnight Scoop was created to scoop the perfect cup of ice cream every time. This is just an example of the many tools that have been created that have made our lives so much easier and efficient at the same time.

#7 POWER PASTA
Power Pasta is said to be the pasta that has it all. We are using Power Pasta as an example of food-based innovation, where a certain food is made a lot better for consumption. The Power Pasta is a protein super-pasta that is filled with healthy fibre and most of all, it is gluten-free!

#8 SELF-STIRRING POT
We learned about self-stirring pots and self-moving woks over the past couple of years where they have been slowly implemented into different restaurants. While this technology is a great feat in itself, it always makes us wonder if technology will then make kitchen staff obsolete? Will technology eventually make everyone obsolete?
