Aliff Nasi Lemak – Delicious Basmati Nasi Lemak at Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre
Known to be one of Singapore’s most popular local dish, it’s not hard to find a Nasi Lemak store whenever you visit a hawker centre.
In an effort to produce quality Nasi Lemak that gives them an edge amongst other stalls, Aliff Nasi Lemak has consistently served up plates of tasty Nasi Lemak using fresh and natural ingredients.
Located at Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre, Aliff Nasi Lemak is also known as one of the few stalls in Singapore who uses Basmati rice in place of the normal jasmine rice for their Nasi Lemak.
On our visit, we ordered a Set B (S$4) which included a fried chicken wing, a fried egg and fried ikan bilis.
As Aliff Nasi Lemak was best known for their Basmati rice, we thought it best to give the rice a taste on its own first. While it wasn’t as moist as normal jasmine rice, it was fragrant and had a fluffy texture. We were pleasantly surprised by the distinct taste of coconut milk and pandan, which was probably a result of Aliff’s use of freshly squeezed coconut milk and pandan leaves.
The accompanying chicken wing was tender and flavourful, which made it easy for us to taste the different spices that were used to marinate the wing. We could also tell that Aliff Nasi Lemak used a high grade of ikan bilis as we found the taste to be crispy and less oily.
We have to say that the last item which truly won us over was the sambal chilli. The perfect blend of sweet and spicy added an extra kick that brought out the flavourful taste of Aliff Nasi Lemak.
