Restoran Kin Wah Group Shot

Restoran Kin Wah is a popular breakfast haunt that both locals and tourists flock to. Nestled along the foodie haven of Jalan Trus, this unassuming coffee shop serves up excellent nasi padang as well as kaya toast and soft boiled eggs that are pretty decent too.

For the uninitiated, nasi padang is a dish that comprises steamed rice served with various choices of savoury and spicy dishes.

For a tantalising meal with a smorgasbord of ingredient options to choose from or simply a stopover for a good cup of coffeeshop-style coffee, Restoran Kin Wah is your best bet. Conveniently located right opposite the popular, Hiap Joo bakery and biscuit factory, there is no excuse why you should give this cheap and good breakfast spot a miss.

Restoran Kin Wah Food Counter

Upon entering this old-school coffee shop, what will greet you is a massive food counter that features more than 20 ingredients to choose from. The process here is simple, just grab a tong or a ladle, add whatever you want onto your plate and hand it over to the lady behind the counter who will calculate the amount you have to pay.

Restoran Kin Wah Nasi Padang

Nasi padang is one of those comfort foods that bear timeless appeal. A simple dish comprising rice and various ingredients, this is something that can be eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We highly recommend getting the begedil (fried potato patty) and their fried chicken. Subtly spiced and mildly charred, the begedil pairs exceptionally well with a touch of sambal.

For two plates filled almost to the brim (with one consisting of 2 pieces of fish), we only paid RM20. Another stellar item to consider is their sambal quail eggs, which brim sweet and savoury qualities. Eaten with a spoonful of steamed rice, what you can expect is an explosion of flavours in your mouth.

During peak hours, the situation here can get rather chaotic, so just a grab any vacant table you can find and proceed to order your food. Try your utmost not to linger too long because the hosts can get rather irritated at diners who linger on for too long.
