A vibrant neighbourhood and an amalgamation of old and new, Katong is home to a plethora of food choices. From restaurants to cheap eats and burgers to tonkatsu, you’re literally spoilt for choice. Although there is no lack of dessert options, Jin Yu Man Tang brings to the table a different kind of dessert: tong shui!

Located in The Flow, a new building along East Coast Road, this two-storey dessert shop specializes in Cantonese desserts. On the menu, you’ll find over 100 items ranging from tong shui, some savoury bites and drinks.

jin yu man tang milk pudding

A signature at Jin Yu Man Tang, we got the Double-layered Milk Pudding with Lotus Seeds and Red Beans (S$4). Impeccably smooth and not too cloying, the melt-in-your-mouth milk pudding was one of the best we’ve had. The lotus seeds and red beans provided a good bite and helped cut through the sweetness too.

Apart from the milk pudding, the red beans were pretty noteworthy as the ones served here were not soaked in syrup–something that we appreciate.

We also had a taste of the Mango with Mini Rice Ball and Sago (S$5.50). This bowl of dessert was a medley of so many textures–chewy rice balls, juicy mango cubes, bite from the sago and the burst of flavour when you bite into the pearls.

On top of that, the mango puree was creamy and had great consistency. We loved that they were pretty generous with the portion too!
