What Not To Miss At Singapore Night Festival 2016 – There Will Be A Steampunk Parade!

One of Singapore’s biggest arts festival is back for its ninth edition this Friday! There have been talks that the Singapore Night Festival 2016 is going to be more spectacular as compared to previous years.

Based on the theme ‘Inventions and Innovations’ – which is inspired from the 19th century era of industrialisation – you can already infer that there will be sci-fi exhibitions and performances that will satisfy the inner geek in you.

The usual light installations, interactive activities, street performances and delicious grub are what you can look forward to on Friday & Saturday, 19 & 20 August, and 26 & 27 August 2016 from 7.30pm – 2am.

#1 HOUSE OF CURIOSITIES

Make your way to Cathay Green, the park in front of the National Museum of Singapore. Cake Theatrical Productions have put together a parade that consists of steampunk creations on wheels, craft activities and a show called ‘The Mechanical Heart’ that brings you through a two-hour journey with inventor Professor Chambers, who built a time machine with his son.

Tickets: S$16(Adults) and S$13 (Senior Citizens, Students and NSFs)

Time: 6pm-8pm, 8.30-10.30pm, 11pm-1am

#2 FESTIVAL VILLAGE

There is nothing not to love about a festival village where people indulge in food and good music. Have a merry time with local and international musicians who will entertain you throughout the night at Singapore Management University’s Campus Green. The flea market boasts an extensive 50 vendors which includes food and beverage stalls as well.

#3 IMAGINARY WORLDS

“The Wheelhouse” and the universe of daddypunk are two exciting acrobatic shows that showcase the world of dreams and imagination. Hopeless romantics should catch ‘The Wheelhouse” as it is a love story of two travellers that is on a journey to nowhere. Immerse yourself into the plot further as you get to walk alongside the actors as their story continues.

Tickets: Admission is free

Time: 19 and 20 August, 8pm-8.25pm, 9.25-9.50pm, 10.50-11.15pm

#4 INVASION BY CLOSE-ACT

A street theatrical company will be bringing magical street performance called ‘Invasion’ to the front lawn of the National Museum of Singapore. Expect to see large “animals” wandering around the audience and a prehistoric bird flying above your head. This combination of a dance, music and circus will definitely be an unforgettable experience.

#5 NIGHT LIGHTS ALONG THE STREETS

The four days at the Singapore Night Festival is going to be dazzling.

There will be LED stick-men dancing on the walls of National Museum of Singapore, ‘The Very Wishing Story’ featuring light installations starting from different streets and eventually converging together and immersive sculptures that have been fitted with notion sensors and LED lights that can be seen on the steps of SOTA.
