Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh—Classic Teochew-Style BKT You Will Crave On A Rainy Day

Ng Ah Sio BKT 3

Starting out as just a humble stall in the 1950s, this Bak Kut Teh chain has since expanded to having 4 outlets in Singapore and even 1 in Taipei. What Ng Ah Sio BKT offers is essentially Teochew-style Bak Kut Teh—one that doesn’t skimp on incorporating the taste of garlic and pepper in its broth. Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh remains as a firm favourite amongst locals and tourists alike.

We opted for the classic Pork Rib Bak Kut Teh (S$7.50), which came with 3 pieces of pork ribs in a savoury broth. The pork ribs came with a good amount of lean meat, but we thought that there really isn’t much to shout about.

Those who are looking to indulge in spare ribs—which is more tender than the former—can opt for the Combo Bak Kut Teh (S$8.50) for a mix of both cuts, or the Premium Bak Kut Teh (S$10.50) which comes with solely spare ribs.

The broth had a strong garlic flavour and we particularly love how it had a prominent peppery aftertaste.

Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh also serves an extensive range of side dishes which you can order as accompaniments to your meal. This ranges from the classic Beancurd Skin (S$3), Preserved Vegetables (S$3) and You Tiao (S$2.50) to Pig Trotters (S$10) and Homemade Ngoh Hiang (S$10) for heartier choices.
