Nestled amongst the many food stalls in Ghim Moh Food Centre lies Jiu Jiang Shao La—a food stall that specialises in roasted meats, and is especially known for their roasted duck meat.
When we first reached Ghim Moh Food Centre, what caught our eyes was the long queue for this humble-looking duck rice stall. Being the typical Singaporeans that we are, we just had to join in the queue! There were at least 15 people in line for this roasted duck rice stall and we simply had to find out why.
The prices here were rather affordable, with the most expensive item on the menu being S$5.30 for a plate of roasted duck leg rice. We opted for a plate with both roasted char siew and roasted duck meat and we were won over immediately. Both the char siew meat and roasted duck meat looked promising as they glistened under the light.
The roasted duck meat was great, albeit slightly dry. The duck might have been cooked longer to give the duck skin an extra flavourful and extra crispy texture. The duck skin was so addictive that we craved for more after finishing up what was on our plate.
However, the star of the show was the glistening char siew meat. It was well-marinated but not too salty, and charred to perfection. The sweet caramelization on the exterior of the succulent meat was the cherry on top of the cake.
While we preferred the char siew over the roasted duck, it seems that their roasted duck is still the fairly popular choice amongst their customers. We would recommend that diners get both the roasted char siew and roasted duck meat for the best of both worlds.
